A Monsoon whirled into the gymnasium like an unstoppable seasonal force.

And just prevailed.

His name is Charles Odum, who scored a possible school-record 48 points as the Mayfair Monsoons stormed past Artesia, 120-65, Friday night and seized their first Suburban League crown since 2004.

Odum had 21 points after one quarter and 35 at halftime and left the game with four minutes remaining. Coach Tony Davis admitted he would not have sat Odum if he knew how many points he had. ‘We just knew he had a ton when we took him out,’ Davis told the Press-Telegram. ‘We didn’t know he was only two points away from 50.’

Still, 48 is great.
