Senior forward Adam Kolodney was the MVP of Westlake‘s 61-53 Division I-AA wild-card victory over El Segundo (15-13) on Wednesday.

Kolodney hit three, three-pointers in the final frame with the final one dropping with 3:55 left in the game to give the Wolverines (18-9) not only their first lead, but also a permanent one. He finished with a team-best 22 points.

It was a definite change of fortune for Westlake, which, up until late in the third quarter, struggled with its perimeter game all night. However, once the Wolverines were able to contain a somewhat-tired-looking Kevin Ryan in the fourth quarter, they were looking good for the win. Despite his second-half slow down, Ryan still scored a game-high 30 points.

It’s a big win, but can the Wolverines beat a talented Harvard-Westlake team that handed them a 64-60 loss back on Dec. 8? I think it’s possible as long as they play more consistently and not let another big man (like Renaldo Woolridge) dominate the paint. And believe me -- Woolridge won’t tire out.

Here’s Kolodney’s take on the big win. By the way, the game was played on Wednesday, not Friday. You’ll see what I’m talking about in the video:
