There’s no more whispering going on. The animosity between private and public schools is about to enter the public arena with a loud, passionate debate with the decision of the Century League to propose having separate playoff divisions for public and private schools for all team sports in the Southern Section.

The good news is that this should bring out all the complaints, and it will produce responses in kind, so everyone can get a true feel for the issue. Whether this proposal comes to fruition remains to be seen. There are legal issues that need to be resolved. But it should be educational, entertaining and, hopefully, not too mean-spirited.

It is a serious matter that could have profound implications on the Southern Section. I’m waiting to hear arguments from both sides.
