Brit Johnson, who coached offensive linemen for La Palma Kennedy the past 13 seasons, has been the acting interim head coach at the school in the days since Mitch Olson resigned.

Olson was hired on Feb. 4 as the coach at Watkinsville (Ga.) Oconee County. Friday is his last day at Kennedy, where he coached for 21 seasons and compiled a 163-85-3 record, won eight league titles and one section title.

Olson said that he hoped someone from within the coaching staff would succeed him, both as a football coach and as boys’ athletic director.

Given the tight-knit nature of Kennedy, it would be especially surprising if someone from outside the football program was named to replace Olson as coach.

‘I think the coaches are looking for Brit to be the guy,’ said Dave Jankowski, who resigned as girls’ basketball coach to take over as interim athletic director.
