The water polo hero of the day has to go out to Louisville‘s Katie Mulflur.

Mulflur scored three of the Royals’ final four goals to spearhead Louisville’s 9-8 upset of defending Division IV champion Lompoc Cabrillo. Mulflur finished with a team-best four goals and Elisabeth Leoni ruffled the twine twice in the comeback.

By the way, this may be my only ‘hero of the day’ blog. It’s pretty corny, but I figured it would be a decent way to acknowledge Mulflur’s clutch scoring surge. And who knows? Maybe this big-time recognition will inspire her to put up another big-time performance against Malibu on Saturday.

Also, I guarantee a SF Valley/North team will win the Division IV title. I like my odds since seven of the eight teams playing in Saturday’s quarterfinals (top-seeded Harvard-Westlake, Glendale, Rio Mesa, Malibu, Louisville, Burbank and Arroyo Grande) are from the region.

And I’m pretty sure Katie is somewhere in the photo I posted, I just don’t know which one she is (although the mane-gy looking player wearing the crown has been eliminated from Mulflur contention). Maybe someone out in the blogosphere can point her out.
