Guess the playoffs weren’t meant to be for Miller Jr. and Beverly Hills

Thought it was interesting to see Percy Miller Jr. on ESPN‘s coverage of NBA All-Star weekend earlier this evening while his former teammates on the Beverly Hills boys’ basketball team were sitting at home, most likely wondering what happened to a season that once held so much promise.

See, Miller Jr. was expected to be the Normans’ leader, but was suspended in early January for violating team policies and ultimately dismissed from the team about three weeks later. Beverly Hills never recovered, losing 12 consecutive games and missing out on the Southern Section playoffs.

Far be it from me to pass judgment on anyone. That’s not the purpose of this blog. In his defense, Miller Jr. had good reason to be in New Orleans for the festivities. His dad, Master P, was playing in the Celebrity Game. In fact, the hip-hop mogul helped guide his team to a 51-50 victory with his son looking on in the crowd.

This whole scenario strikes me as rather odd, that’s all. With the USC-bound Miller Jr., it appeared as if the Normans had the pieces in place to make some noise this year. Yet postseason play begins all over the Southland tonight and Beverly Hills is nothing more than a spectator. Interesting, isn’t it?
