Former Granada Hills baseball Coach Darryl Stroh came to town Saturday from his retirement home in Arizona to help honor his 1978 City Section championship team at the alumni game.

It was also supposed to be a field dedication ceremony in his honor, but a school committee called off the ceremony while it debates proper procedures. That didn’t stop a representative from Councilman Greig Smith’s office from declaring that on behalf of the councilman and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, it was now ‘Stroh Field.’

It’s good to see a politician getting behind the will of the people. Stroh guided Granada Hills to five City baseball championships.
