At least for Loyola, Thompson will be back

Sure, the Loyola Cubs’ season is kaput after an 85-66 squashing courtesy of Santa Margarita on Tuesday night in the second round of the Southern Section Division I-AA boys’ basketball playoffs.

Sure, colossal dreams have poofed away as the Cubs began the season as a top-ranked team in the Southland.

But there is one thing that must sooth Loyola’s pain -- Georgetown-bound Hollis Thompson is only a junior and will return next season better and stronger. And so will Loyola.

(Oh, in case you didn’t know, not only is Thompson a 6-foot-8 forward with a 19-point average, he’s also a star brainiac with a 4.1 grade-point average.)
