OK, maybe the Eaagles aren’t soaring to the quarters, but after a 46-43 victory Wednesday at Troy, Santa Margarita is moving on.

Troy couldn’t buy a basket for much of the second half, and SM’s 16-2 run gave the Eagles a 41-29 lead with 3:46 left in the game.

Troy got as close as 43-40 on Alex Sanchez’s second consecutive three-point basket with 1:15 left.

Sanchez finished with 12 for Troy (23-5), and three others had eight points, including Amanda Sims, who missed more than seven minutes after she injured her chin.

Santa Margarita (23-4) was led by Melissa Zornig’s 11 points.

The Eagles will play host to second-seeded Millikan on Saturday.

I should have more about Troy-SM a little later tonight.
