Last time I spoke with Osiris Nalls, about a week ago, the Cleveland boys’ basketball coach was on Cloud 9 after his team pulled off a huge upset in the City Section playoffs, defeating fifth-seeded Palisades by four points in a first-round game. The excitement was warranted, no doubt. The Cavaliers did what they needed to do in order to move on in the Championship Division playoffs.

‘We plan on playing in Friday’s semifinals, too,’’ Nalls said during our phone conversation. Mind you, I made sure to ask him if it was OK to use his quote, considering some might think it implies 12th-seeded Cleveland is overlooking tonight’s opponent in the quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Fremont. Can’t imagine the Pathfinders being in a good mood after seeing this blog.

Nalls is a good guy, so I felt compelled to give him several chances to retract his statement. No dice. He was cool with it, cool with what he said. I was cool with it because it stirs up a little controversy before the tip-off. The real question: Is Fremont cool with it?
