My initial reaction when the City Section pairings came out was, ‘anybody can win this.’

Tuesday’s second round game between No. 1 Wilmington Banning and No. 16 Monroe confirmed that. The Pilots needed two second half goals to beat Monroe, 2-1, to advance to today’s quarterfinals match against No. 9 San Pedro.

But that’s not the only example. How about #19 El Camino Real still being alive int he playoffs? Or defending champion Canoga Park being seeded No. 12?

It’s anybody race in the City Section and, despite what seeding might say, there are no favorites. That’s what I think, anyway.
