The Mater Dei boys’ basketball team shouldn’t hold anything back tonight against visiting Capistrano Valley in a Southern Section Division I-AA quarterfinal game.

The Monarchs sure didn’t show restraint with their selection of ‘My Own Worst Enemy’ by Lit for one of their pregame warmup tunes.

At least they didn’t modify the lyrics to sing, ‘Cause every now and then I kick the living (fill in the blank) out of Capistrano Valley.’

These two teams shared the South Coast League until a few years ago, when all the public schools got tired of getting their noses wiped by the privates.

Anyway, we’re tipping off here, and that’s the only thing the Cougars will win.

Steve Fryer of the Orange County Register is in the house so I think I picked the right OC game to check out.
