Top-seeded Long Beach Wilson will face Aliso Niguel on the road Tuesday at 5 p.m. in one of the Southern Section Division I girls’ soccer playoff semifinals.

The other semifinal will be between the winners of Mater Dei vs. No. 2 Esperanza and Marina vs. No. 3 San Clemente.

The Bruins beat Buena, 1-0, with a goal from Samantha Prochnow while the Wolverines upset No. 3 Los Alamitos, 2-1, with two goals from Zaneta Wyne. Bruins Coach Jason Kirkwood said he is OK with playing at night because it will allow more fans to attend the game. Privately, though, I think Kirkwood gets a kick out of playing night games.

Long Beach Wilson has a lot of success playing in night games this season, so why shouldn’t he be OK with playing under the lights. The Bruins’ season began to take off in December when they won the Aliso Cup and the Mater Dei Invitational in consecutive weeks. Both finals were played at night.

The Bruins and the Wolverines have not faced each other this season.

I’ll update the other semifinal matchup when I know it.
