Taft Coach Derrick Taylor had a second to savor the Toreador’s 77-51 victory over Fremont in the City Section Championship Division semifinals Friday before he was asked how his team would stop Fairfax center Renardo Sidney.

Top-seeded Taft will play third-seeded Fairfax next Saturday at the Sports Areana for the City title.

‘At least I have a week to think about it,’ Taylor replied.

The 6-foot-10 Sidney, a junior, had a monster game for Fairfax on Friday in its 55-53 semifinal victory over Westchester, with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Sidney also scored the winning basket on an 18-foot jumper with less than two seconds to play.

‘Fairfax has something in the L.A. City I’ve never seen in my lifetime as a coach or a fan -- a 6-10 guy with that type of offensive game,’ Taylor said. ‘I’ve never seen that.

‘I’ve got to figure out a way to stop him. I don’t know how yet, but I’ve got to figure something out.’
