Gotta love second chances. San Clemente loses in the regular season to Foothill, the sky is falling -- along with its lofty ranking -- and then comes back to win the rematch in the playoffs. Nice storyline, especially for a couple of players who weren’t exactly on the top of their game the first go-round.

Sophomore Cassie Harberts scored 21 points and junior Jacqui Marshall had 17 for fourth-seeded San Clemente in its 57-52 Division I-A quarterfinal victory over fifth-seeded Foothill. Andrea Wertz’s five three-pointers didn’t hurt either for the defending champs.

Now they will play host to top-seeded Redondo in a championship-worthy game.

No disrespect intended for the other semifinalists, but I think the winner of this game -- because they’re the two sharpest teams right now -- emerges as the champion against No. 2 Muir or No. 3 Mira Costa.
