The word inside the gym at Long Beach CC is that second-seeded Millikan came from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Ventura, which means the Division I-AA title will be the Battle of the Beach.

Top-seeded Long Beach Poly crushed Lynwood, 57-32, and it was that close only because the fifth-seeded Knights outscored the second team -- or was that the third? -- 15-2 over the final 6 1/2 minutes.

If I had to guess, I would bet the title game will be Friday since it will be at the Pyramid in Long Beach.

Jasmine Dixon had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Poly, and Monique Oliver had 12 and 12. Sheila Boykin scored nine for Lynwood.

Poly did what it wanted to do, disrupt Lynwood’s transition game and take away the inside.

‘That game might have been the best game of the year,’ said Poly Coach Carl Buggs.

Poly led at halftime, 32-11, and by as much as 38 points, 55-17, in the fourth quarter.

‘We just weren’t ready to play,’ said Lynwood Coach Ellis Barfield. ‘We left our game on the bus.’
