Made it here to Ocean View High in Huntington Beach just in time to see Mater Dei and Long Beach Wilson warm up before their Southern Section Division I-AA boys’ basketball semifinal.

Wilson really is as short as it looks on paper. With no player taller than 6-foot-4 on the roster, I have a feeling the 6-10 Wear twins for Mater Dei will be playing volleyball with each other all game. Except, instead of pass, set, spike, it will be more like ... offensive rebound, offensive rebound, two-handed dunk.

Wilson’s two best players, Steven Richard and Michael Wilder, have been playing well in the postseason, both averaging more than 20 points a game. Wilder, a 6-2 junior, is also averaging double digits in rebounds.

I’d be surprised if they get those numbers against the Monarchs, however.

We’re getting set for tip off and it’s a full house here at Ocean View, so we’ll soon find out.
