Since losing to Fairfax in the City Championship semifinals on Feb. 22, Westchester has been planning for tonighty’s/Monday’s Southern California Regionals playoff game against visiting Rancho Verde.

One of the things the Comets have been working on is their defensive intensity which, according to one assistant coach, was lacking at times during the loss to Fairfax.

Just as important, however, is shooting.

The Comets have been vulnerable to cold streaks from the perimeter. Their inside scoring more often comes from beating teams down the floor for easy layups than having a great post player.

‘It’s good that we’re at home where we’re comfortable,’ Coach Ed Azzam said before the game. ‘What I don’t want to see is (panic) in their eyes if they miss a few shots.’
