Mater Dei should find Mission Hills easy pickin’s

Getting ready to tip off here at the Southern California Regional Division II semifinal game between Mater Dei and visiting Mission Hills out of San Marcos.

The Grizzlies might put up a fight for a quarter or so, but no way will they get in the way of the Monarchs run to the state final.

They’ve got a 6-foot-7 senior forward in Taylor Darby who can play and a nice jump shooter in senior guard Jensen Moore, but that’s about it.

Mission Hills blew an 11-point lead in the first half of its San Diego Section Division II final last weekend and lost to San Diego Hoover, 54-43.

The Grizzlies start five seniors, all of whom have been with the program since they were freshmen, which was also the program’s first year, so they probably have some decent chemistry.

Unfortunately, it will take more than familiarity to beat the Monarchs.
