Sun Valley Poly was good enough to make the semifinals of the Southern California Invitational baseball tournament, but Sherman Oaks Notre Dame did not let the Parrots progress any further, winning, 9-1, at home on Friday.

Poly Coach Chuck Schawl certainly was not expecting his team -- now 3-1 overall -- to go through the 2008 season unbeaten, especially facing a strong Southern Section squad like Notre Dame (4-0).

But playing quality teams like the Knights is an experience Schawl believes will benefit his team as it readies for league play, and, hopefully, the City playoffs.

Or even sooner.

‘The [Southern Section] schools are really good. They just keep throwing athletes at you the entire game,’ Schawl said. ‘So this was a real good experience for us. Now we face [Granada Hills] Kennedy and a night game at Birmingham. So we’ll find out what we’re made of next week.’
