Mater Dei let Fresno Edison hang around during the second quarter of their Southern California Regional Division II boys’ basketball final, giving up the final six points and taking a 38-28 lead into the half.

The Monarchs are struggling a bit with their outside shot, probably because they’re not comfortable with the setting here at the antiquated Sports Arena. Sort of reminds me of one of those old Las Vegas casinos. All they need is some velvet seats and a Dean Martin impersonator.

Mater Dei has made 13 of 28 shots in the first half (46.4%). Sophomore guard Gary Franklin has already put up two airballs from three-point range. Fortunately, Edison is only shooting 39.3%.

The Monarchs went into the locker room for about five minutes and came right back out and started warming up. I’m guessing the locker rooms don’t have running water.
