“Travis, throw your brother the ball”

Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight was emphatic in the first quarter: ‘Travis, throw your brother the ball.’ Travis and David Wear, the 6-10 twins, are trying to use their height against Archbishop Mitty, and McKnight is giving them a nudge in this state Division II final.

The Wears are making their presence felt on defense, helping Mater Dei take a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. David has scored three baskets.

So far, Mitty is not applying too much defensive pressure on Mater Dei’s guards, which helped Dominguez defeat the Monarchs two weeks ago in the Southern Section Division I-AA title game.
