It was pretty clear Saturday during a news conference by CIF Executive Director Marie Ishida that the Home Depot Center in Carson isn’t likely to host this fall’s third year of the state bowl championships in football.

Set for the weekend of Dec. 20, Ishida said seven venues have made bids to host the five bowl games, including Home Depot, which was the venue the last two years. But Ishida said ‘the cost is prohibitive’ in Home Depot’s proposal.

Others who have submitted bids include the Coliseum, Bakersfield’s Memorial Stadium, Stanford, UC Davis, San Jose State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s visitor’s bureau.

I make Bakersfield the favorite because it’s close enough to Los Angeles that it would hold down transportation costs. But everybody had better have a (Tule) fog horn ready for driving to Bakersfield the week before Christmas.
