Looks as if the Renaissance Academy boys’ basketball is going to have to make do with its small lineup against Ross Branson in the Division V state final. The Wildcats trail Ross Branson, 31-26, heading into the fourth quarter at Arco Arena in Sacramento, but if they can get their top players untracked, they have a chance to steal this one.

DeAndre Daniels, a 6-8 sophomore, played only five minutes in the first half and didn’t make an appearance in the third quarter. Hector Harold, a 6-7 junior, played only one minute in the first half and also didn’t see the floor in the third.

Fortunately, the other big man for Renaissance Academy, 6-10 junior Anthony Stover, is beginning to heat up, converting a three-point play to cut the deficit to 27-24 with 2:11 left in the third.

Josh Thomas has been carrying the Wildcats, hitting a three-pointer during the quarter and putting back his own miss on the next possession. He has a team-high 11 points. Unfortunately, his backcourt mate and one of the team’s leading scorers, Justin Cook, has only one point.
