The Long Beach Poly girls’ basketball team scored eight of the last nine points in the first quarter of the girls’ Division I state final and lead Berkeley, 14-9, at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

After scoring on an early fast-break layup, Rutgers-bound forward Jasmine Dixon (pictured from earlier game) missed three straight shots from in close, but then knocked down a running bank shot to give the Jackrabbits a 10-8 lead with 1:40 remaining.

Ariya Crook-Williams and Thaddesia Southall came off the bench and scored buckets in the last minute of the quarter to give Poly its five-point lead.

Berkeley junior point guard Camila Rosen looks like a tough matchup for the Jackrabbits. She’s 5-11 and very rangy. She scored six of Berkeley’s first eight points.

Berkeley, meanwhile, got a little sloppy in the closing minute of the opening quarter and was called for traveling on its last three possessions.
