Last year, Bellflower had its highest baseball draft pick in school history when the Minnesota Twins took Reggie Williams in the fourth round with the 152nd overall selection.

This year, the Buccaneers should have an even higher selection –- Anthony Gose, projected as a possible first- or second-rounder.

The only question is: How will Gose go, as a pitcher or hitter? “I know he wants to go as an outfielder,” Bellflower Coach Keith Tripp said. “But any time a kid can throw 97 miles per hour, you want to put him on the mound.”

Gose already has 32 strikeouts in 19 innings this season for Bellflower (5-2). He’s signed to play college ball with Arizona, but might not make it there, depending on where he’s drafted. Especially if it’s in one of the top couple rounds.
