David Dash was expected to be one of the top football players in the Citrus Belt League next fall. All that changed late last month when he was declared ineligible by the Southern Section for the next two years.

Dash, a running back who transferred from Fontana to Miller after his sophomore season last winter, was originally granted a hardship waiver, but section commisioner James Staunton told the San Bernardino Sun yesterday that the family was ‘not entirely forthcoming’’ with their hardship request.

Dash’s family reportedly requested the hardship because the young children of Dash’s sister had moved in with the family, and David needed to attend school closer to home so he could cut down the commute and help out with baby sitting. What they didn’t relate in the hardship request was that another sister, Courtney, had remained at Fontana, where she’s a senior softball player.

I guess David was the better baby sitter.

As you would expect, attorneys have been hired, accusations are flying and fellow CBL coaches are just shaking their heads. Somewhere out there is a 16-year-old kid who just had his childhood dream crushed by a bunch of adults.
