You put a team in a position of power, and quicker than you can say ‘Emeril,’ Bam!, it loses. That’s what happened to Los Alamitos, whose stay at No. 1 in The Times’ top 25 will probably be about a week long.

The Griffins were moved to No. 1 on Tuesday night, then took it on the chin from Edison on Thursday, the victims of Kurt Heyer’s three-hitter and a two-run homer by Kyle Higashioka. Heyer didn’t walk anyone, and it was his second shutout in a row for the Chargers. You can read more about it here.

The week before that, it was Thousand Oaks that was No. 1 but took it on the cranium and got pounded into the earth.

Could Vista Murrieta be next in line for No. 1? Nope. The Broncos were No. 2 and lost Tuesday to Temescal Canyon, 4-1.

Maybe Orange Lutheran can deal with the accompanying target. The Lancers are No. 3 this week (up from No. 9 last week). But Lancers beware: They play Salt Lake City Cottonwood on Monday at the National Classic. Cottonwood is No. 37 in the StudentSports.com Fab 50.
