One of the surprise baseball teams in the early season is Mayfair, which is 7-3 overall, 2-0 in the Suburban League and owns a victory over Northview.

Leading the way has been pitcher-center fielder Garrett Carpenter, who’s only 5 feet 8 but can play the game with the best. He’s a four-year starter.

Carpenter is 16 for 28 at the plate and 3-0 on the mound. He also has six stolen bases. The Monsoons figure to challenge Bellflower and La Mirada for the Suburban League title.
