Boys’ basketball: George looking for the perfect combination

Ever since Knight‘s Paul George obtained a release from his letter of intent with Pepperdine in the wake of Coach Vance Wahlberg’s resignation, everybody has been trying to figure out where the 6-foot-7 forward is going to end up.

Well, judging by his comments to Scout.com, it appears George is looking for two things in his college choice -- nice weather and a spot in the starting lineup. As a result, Wyoming has been eliminated from George’s college hunt. Of course, how much worse could Laramie be in the dead of winter compared to a brisk, January day in Palmdale? When you take the wind chill factor into consideration, the Antelope Valley can be brutally cold.

And what about Colorado? George has an offer on the table from the Buffs, but if he thought Wyoming was too cold, I doubt he’s going to be content playing in the mile-high environment of Boulder. Plus, it’s questionable how much playing time he’ll see as a freshman at Colorado.

It looks increasingly likely that George will end up at either Fresno State or UC Santa Barbara. Both schools meet his temperature prerequisites and there’s a good chance he could see some starting time with either team.

We’ll see in the upcoming weeks which school comes out on top in the race for one of the nation’s top unsigned prospects.
