Spring football practice is just around the corner for City Section teams, and while defending champion Birmingham loses two-time player of the year Milton Knox, pictured, the Patriots still figure to be very competitive in a year with lots of candidates to end up at the Coliseum.

I can’t wait to see junior running back Trajuan Briggs of Birmingham. He’s 6 feet, 195 pounds and was impressive backing up Knox last season. He’s even got a YouTube moment. But Birmingham’s strength is linemen. The Patriots have six players who weigh at least 300 pounds.

Narbonne could be Birmingham’s biggest threat, with quarterback Josh Moten and receiver Byron Moore.

Look for Dorsey and Crenshaw to be strong from the Coliseum League, with Banning, Carson and San Pedro providing competition to Narbonne in the Marine League.
