It’s been a season of change at Palisades but one thing has remained the same: the baseball team’s domination of the Western League.

Despite a new coach and the graduation of All-City pitchers Cole Cook and Johnny Bromberg, Palisades finds itself in a familiar position -- first place in a league it has owned for the last five years. In fact, the club has posted a 61-4 mark in league play over that time period.

The Dolphins’ 6-0 shutout of University on Thursday was their 21st consecutive league victory, including all of last season, when they went undefeated in league for the first time in school history. Palisades won 55 league games in four seasons under previous coach Tom Seyler and when Mike Voelkel took over this spring he knew he was inheriting a program accustomed to winning league titles.

So far, the Dolphins have won all six league games under their new coach, but Voelkel is not about to let his team get complacent--not with half the season remaining.

‘We have to learn to be more consistent, to grind it out every game no matter who we’re playing,’ Voelkel said. ‘Whether we win or lose I want us to play a certain way game in and game out.’
