Ryan Thacher doesn’t seek publicity, but I guess it’s hard to avoid the spotlight when you’re the best high school tennis player in the country.

He’s certainly caught the eye of editors at RISE (formerly called School Sports), a national magazine covering high school athletics, who have selected Thacher to appear on the April cover, a distinction he now shares with, among others, NBA superstar LeBron James.

Granted, it remains to be seen whether the Harvard-Westlake senior will achieve the level of fame in his sport that James has in basketball, but Thacher’s future certainly appears bright.

A two-time high school All-American and stellar student, Thacher has signed with Stanford. According to Harvard-Westlake Coach Chris Simpson, the 6-foot-3 lefty ‘has the X factor it takes to reach the top.’

When you watch the ease and confidence with which he plays, it’s easy to see why Thacher is on the RISE. Click here for the magazine’s online version.
