Saw the score and thought I had stepped into a time machine. Valencia defeated Garden Grove Pacifica, 3-2. No, not No. 5 Valencia from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Placentia Valencia.

That’s the biggest victory in years -- decades??? -- for the Tigers, who are famous in softball circles for being the alma mater of pitcher Michele Granger, pictured, who struck out about a million batters while she was the best pitcher in the world while still in high school.

Pacifica went into the game ranked No. 17 by The Times. Valencia? It had lost five of its previous eight games.

Valencia did it in money time, too, scoring in the top of the seventh inning on a walk to Krista Fauria, a stolen base and a double by Jamie North. There’s a little more about the Empire League game here.
