I’m not inherently surprised that Trabuco Hills defeated No. 22 Foothill in the semifinals of the 26th Woodbridge Classic. But by a 10-4 score? That seems a bit of a shocker.

OK, I lied. I am inherently surprised that Trabuco Hills beat Foothill.

Trabuco scored three runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings. It got three runs batted in from Madi Geiger, and two each from Kelsi Luttrell, Kayla Massey and Taylor Thurman. It reminds me of that doubleheader earlier this season in which Foothill gave up 25 runs to La Mirada. I mean, that just doesn’t happen. Not at Foothill.

But it does this year.

And so Trabuco (9-9-1) is set to take on North Torrance (12-4) in the championship game. North’s Hayley Rodriguez pitched a two-hitter in a 2-0 victory over No. 24 Fullerton. She also drove in a run. Apparently, North is trying to prove that San Pedro’s not the only team in the neighborhood who can play this game.

-- Editor Bob: I’m not surprised in the least that Trabuco Hills beat Foothill. After all, the Mustangs beat the Knights in their Sea View League game, 4-3, on April 3. They will meet again at 7 p.m. on April 29 at Trabuco Hills. Of course, as a graduate of Tustin High, maybe I’m looking a little too hard for any reason to mention a loss by rival Foothill.
