Every team needs a captain -- that lead-by-example guy on the field and in the clubhouse. Mary Star has two of those guys -- catcher Johnny Cigliano and pitcher Pete Ciaramitaro. Coach Andy Fiamengo called Cigliano ‘a rah-rah player’ and Ciaramitaro is ‘laid back and mellow.’

‘They’re a good balance and make up the solid foundation of our team,’ Fiamengo said.

Yes, a foundation with real solid statistics -- Cigliano is hitting .538 with four homers and Ciaramitaro has five wins and 71 strikeouts in 46.2 innings.

So, with captains like Cigliano and Ciaramitaro, it’s no shocker to see the Stars (13-3, 6-1) sitting atop the Camino Real League, and it won’t be a surprise to see them win it.

(P.S. Yes, my all-time favorite captain was... Captain Caaaavemannnnn!)
