Boys’ basketball: Cal-Hi all-state squad has Southland flair

Seven of the 10 players who comprise the 29th Cal-Hi Sports boys’ all-state team, which was released on Tuesday, are from the Southland. Another six were on the second team and three were on the online magazine’s third team.

Among those named were Jrue Holiday of Campbell Hall, Demar DeRozan of Compton, Larry Drew of Taft, Jordan Hamilton of Dominguez, Renardo Sidney of Fairfax, Klay Thompson of Santa Margarita and Jerime Anderson of Anaheim Canyon.

Holiday, pictured, led his team to three state titles, including two in a row, and averaged 25.3 points, 12 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 4.6 steals. Earlier this season he was named The Times’ player of the year, and Mr. Basketball by Cal-Hi Sports.

Holiday, Drew, DeRozan and Thompson were state players of the year in their divisions, as deemed by Cal-Hi Sports.
