If you check out USA Today’s All-USA hoops team, you might get peeved -- I certainly did.

There was an egregious omission... Compton’s DeMar DeRozan, who didn’t make the publication’s first team but did make the second. His numbers were of first-team caliber and so is his talent.

DeRozan -- who is considered to be the No. 1 or No. 2 rated player in the nation, according to most preps web sites -- will likely spend only one year at USC before jetting to the NBA. He also won the McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest.

One other thing about DeRozan, I remember what Trojans Coach Tim Floyd told me when I bumped into him at the Compton gym back in January: ‘DeMar has more pro potential in the 2008 class.’

I would agree -- and that’s why he’s a first-team guy.
