It’s not too late to make plans to head out to the baseball diamond at Garey High in Pomona today/Wednesday to watch the Vikings take on Don Lugo in a battle for first place in the Mt. Baldy League. Each team will enter the game owning an 8-1 record in league play.

After a 3-4 start, Don Lugo has won six straight and 11 of 12. The Conquistadores are led by Charlie Hinojosa, who blasted a three-run homer in the third inning Friday to break a 3-3 tie with visiting Montclair and pave the way for an 8-7 victory.

Garey has been swinging the bat especially well lately, outscoring its last three opponents, 34-5. Quite a turnaround for a team that went 4-11 in Mt. Baldy League play last season, its first since coming over from the Miramonte League.

If you can’t make today’s game, the teams are also scheduled to meet Friday at Don Lugo.
