It’s time for fans and supporters of Los Angeles City Section high school sports to speak up. The mayor’s office has recommended cutting the entire grant for TV station LA36, which would force it off the air. LA36 has developed a loyal following for its coverage of high school sports for six years.

Next week, the City Council budget committee, headed by Bernard Parks, will consider the recommendation.

Those who have appreciated years of LA36 coverage of education issues should send e-mails to their local councilmember and Parks at councilmember.parks@lacity.org, as well as his staff member at monique.earl@lacity.org.

LA36 raised more than $300,000 from private donations, but it can’t continue without the city grant of $550,000.

Hundreds of high school athletes have appeared in sporting events broadcast by LA36.
