Tournament organizers couldn’t have asked for two more attractive semifinal matches Saturday morning in the CIF boys’ singles division.

Surviving the top half of the bracket Friday were No. 1-seeded Fabian Matthews of Corona del Mar and Reese Milner of Crossroads.

The bottom half will feature a clash between former doubles partners, Walker Kehrer of Brentwood and Kyle McMorrow of Thousand Oaks.

Matthews, the Sea Kings’ No. 1 player, has committed to UC Irvine. After he beat Jeremy Quiroz of Stockdale in the round of 16, Matthews advanced to the semifinals on an injury withdrawal by Campbell Hall’s Jenson Turner.

Milner, meanwhile, got his first stiff test in the quarterfinals against Santa Barbara’s Daniel Nguyen, but won, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

McMorrow, the second seed in the 64-player field, needed three sets to beat Carson’s Florante Sarmiento in the round of 16, then dropped only one game in the quarterfinals against Daniel Moss of Malibu.

Kehrer won a tiebreaker in the final set against Beverly Hills’ Daniel Ho, then outlasted Warren Hardie of Dana Hills in the quarterfinals, 7-6(1), 5-7, 7-5. Kehrer and McMorrow teamed up to win the Easter Bowl 16s doubles title last year.

Both singles semifinals will begin at 10:30 Saturday morning at Thacher School in Ojai, with the winners meeting for the championship at 2 p.m., at Libbey Park. These are three matches you don’t want to miss!
