One day and two rounds into the CIF Boys’ Doubles competition at the Ojai tournament, and the draw is shaping up rather nicely for some killer quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

Peninsula’s Tyler Bowman and Jonathan Kazarian are looking strong in the upper half of the bracket and face a tough test in their morning round of 16 match versus Crossroads pair Erich Koenig and Clay Thompson. Should Bowman and Kazarian advance, they might see Ethan Bond and Uday Singh of Division III power Beverly Hills in the Elite Eight.

In a battle between duos from two of the top three teams in Division I, Santa Barbara’s Andrew Grant and Bill Grokenberger go against Harvard-Westlake’s Mark Seraydarian and Alex Wittenberg with the winner likely to face Nick Chang and Daniel Weingarten of reigning Division II champion San Marino in the quarters.

The bottom bracket is every bit as intriguing, with Ryan Cheung and Jason Lin keeping Irvine University in contention for the overall team title with two early victories. Should the Trojans’ tandem get by Joshua Albert and Devon Sousa of Mira Costa in the morning, they could find themselves pitted against Sunny Hills’ Lewis Hong and Lawrence Yiang in the quarters.

The City Section’s only remaining entry is Carson’s Romel Orpiano and Andrew Sarawasi, who clash with Mater Dei’s Charlie Alvarado and Christopher Freeman at 11 a.m. for a spot in the Elite Eight against either Nikolai Karnopp and Kyle Van Buskirk of La Jolla or Torsten Keil-Long and Clarke Spinosa of Claremont.
