The score just posted on MaxPreps...

The Lakewood Lancers won big last night, 14-2, against Long Beach Millikan and also won the Moore League title. All this would have seemed impossible when the Lancers bumbled to a 6-9 start, getting shut out three times. All this would have seemed implausible when legendary coach, Spud O’Neil, held four consecutive days of practices which he dubbed ‘Back to Basics.’

But it is possible -- it is plausible.

O’Neil got his Lancers (20-10, 11-0) back to the basics and they have won 13 of 14 and are ranked No. 22 by The Times. This should not be a shocker to any of us -- considering O’Neil has well over 500 victories and 15 Southern Section finals appearances in his 25 years of coaching at the high-school level.
