Gardena Serra was expected to have a good showing at today’s Southern Section-Toyota Division IV preliminaries at Carpinteria High, and the Cavaliers have done little to disappoint thus far, placing well in several field events despite going up against some good competition.

Individually, James Kennedy, the defending 110-meter hurdles champion, is the top qualifier among his peers with a time of 15.13. Teammate Robert Woods finished ahead of the pack in the 400, qualifying in 49.74. Both must be considered favorites to win once the finals roll around in an hour or so.

The boys’ 400 relay team did well too as Gardena posted the best time among all qualifiers with a 43.05. The Cavaliers have plenty to be happy about right now, and it will be interesting to see if they can keep up the momentum throughout the remainder of the meet.
