Kori Carter of Claremont, who went into the day as the state’s top-rated runner in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, easily won the Division II title Saturday at the Southern Section-Toyota Championships at Mt. SAC. It was her second title of the day, having already won in 100 hurdles.

However, her time of 43.18 seconds barely qualified her for Friday’s Masters Meet at Cerritos College as seven other runners posted faster times in other divisions in the 300.

One of those, Ericka Nowell of Perris, clocked an effort of 41.96 seconds in Division I, a time that displaced Carter’s as the state’s best of the season. Carter had run 41.58 at the Arcadia Invitational. (So, I guess that means Carter still has the best time in the state this season, as Bruce Carter so astutely points out in his comment below. It was a long day with a lot of numbers, but that’s no reason not to be correct--Editor Bob) Nowell had been third in the state, behind Carter and Division IV champion London Finley, pictured, of St. Mary’s Academy.

Allison Reaser of El Segundo won the Division III title.
