Track and field: Dewitt’s discus marks displaces Kovar

Jeanette Dewitt of Nipomo dominated the girls’ discus with a throw of 157 feet 10 inches, more than 11 feet farther than Kayla Kovar of Ridgecrest Burroughs, to win the Division III title at the Southern Section-Toyota Championships at Mt. SAC.

Kovar had been the section leader with a toss of 151-8, but she managed only 146-9 on Saturday. Dewitt’s previous best this season was 147-4.

Heather Snyder of Saugus won in Division I with the third-best mark of the day, 136-4. Ashley Pyka of Anaheim Canyon won Division II. Nnaomi Sornoso of Arrowhead Christian won Division IV at 117-4 but did not qualify for Friday’s Masters Meet at Cerritos College.
