Boys’ golf: Santa Barbara’s Perez wins Southern Section individual title

Senior Andrew Perez of Santa Barbara, pictured in the middle, edged Johnny MacArthur of Hart in a two-hole playoff to win the Southern Section-Toyota boys’ golf individual championship Monday at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs.

Perez, whose team had already qualified for the next round -- the CIF/SCGA tournament on May 29 at the SCGA Members’ Course in Murrieta -- was playing more relaxed than his playoff opponent, cracking jokes as the two walked the fairways.

Santa Barbara had a big day as Shane LeBow finished third and Jack Perry finished tied for fifth with a one-under 71.
