Dos Pueblos among top schools in CIF Academic State Championships

Goleta Dos Pueblos earned top honors in two sports in the CIF Academic State Championships for 2007-08, announced Monday by CIF Executive Director Marie Ishida.

Overall, nine Southern Section schools combined for 10 titles, while Central Coast Section schools picked up seven. San Diego and North Coast Sections won five and four, respectively, and the Northern Section one.

This marks the fourth year that all CIF-approved sports were eligible for consideration for awards, which were based on a team’s collective grade-point average. CIF Academic State Championships are offered for 27 teams in 17 sports. Previously, only teams in state championship sports were eligible for team academic honors.
