Anaheim Canyon knocked top-seeded Los Alamitos on its heels in the bottom of the second inning of their Southern Section-Toyota Division I second-round game, scoring four runs off right-hander Kyle Simon to take a 4-1 lead.

Simon walked Zach Jones with one out and Scott Natsuhara followed with a soft single to left field. Jones went for third on the play and the throw bounced off third baseman Zack Hannaford and into the Canyon dugout, scoring Jones and moving Natsuhara to third.

Shannon Driscol then scored Natsuhara on a grounder to short. After a walk to Alex Najera, Joey Boney slammed a line drive homer to left, giving the Comanches the 4-1 lead.It was Boney’s first homer of the season.

Canyon left-hander Gabe Garcia has been walking a tightrope, walking four batters in the first two innings, but was bailed out in the second when rightfielder Cody Lewis threw out Mickey Lorenzini at the plate to end the inning.

Garcia then worked out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the top of the third and the Griffins have seen enough of Simon, bringing in their ace, junior left-hander Beau Wright, in the bottom of the third.
