Girls’ basketball: Hoover coach calls it quits

Hoover Coach Jack Van Patten has stepped down in an effort to focus on his AD and teaching duties and spend more time with his family.

Van Patten, who graduated from Hoover in 1980, guided the Tornadoes to a 10-15 record this season. Last year, he told Principal Kevin Walsh that 2007-08 probably would be his final season as coach.
